Tips for avoiding spam filters when sending bulk emails

Spam filters are usually very effective at filtering spam from your email box.

They are also very effective at preventing your email marketing (bulk emails) from getting to your recipients if the spam filter thinks your message looks like spam.

Here are some tips for making your bulk email have a better chance of getting though.

  • Make each email message different
    • The Center EX bulk mail can do this if you use snippets, so that each recipient will receive a personalized message, such as 'Dear Joe Client'
  • Don't use any 'spammy' words, like the names of prescription drugs, 'free', 'credit card'.  Avoid writing in all capital letters also.
  • Avoid images, especially if your email message is small relative to the size of the images.
  • Monitor your bounced back messages.  Check the mail box that you used to send the bulk message from.  The bounced emails may have messages on why the message was marked as spam.
  • In your message, ask your user to add you to their trusted senders list, to help get by the next time you send to them
  • Instead of bulk emails, try using RSS Feeds, which is a feature available on  Center EX Library folders.
    • RSS feeds are a new way to get information out without the problems of spam, but require customers to use a RSS Feed reader.  These readers are growing in popularity every day, and may someday be more effective than a bulk email.
